Jennifer heads the Pearce IP Patent Prosecution Team. She has been advising clients on life sciences related patent matters for over 15 years.
Jennifer is a registered Patent Attorney in Australia, New Zealand and the United States and is a qualified Patent Attorney in Europe. She is also a registered Trade Mark Attorney in Australia and New Zealand.
Jennifer has over a decade of experience in guiding clients through the process of protecting inventions from inception to protection and in-between, including providing strategic advice, drafting applications, prosecuting applications in major jurisdictions, extending protection with Patent Term Extensions, and acting in post-grant/post-acceptance proceedings.
Jennifer acts for global and local pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies. Jennifer’s clients love her bed-side manner, her unique and truly global perspective, her love for the science, and her elegant legal/IP strategies.
Jennifer’s clients get the benefit of her experience gained as both a litigator and a prosecutor. Jennifer advises clients with regard to patent validity, infringement and freedom-to-operate on a wide range of biological and pharmaceutical subject matter. She counsels clients on all patent issues, including patent office strategies (prosecution, oppositions, third party observations, reexamination, and patent term extension for pharmaceutical products), and offers IP commercialisation services and litigation support.
With her unique qualifications and experience, Jennifer counsels clients on strategic patent matters from a global perspective. She applies real world knowledge to craft patent applications that can be successfully prosecuted around the world.
Jennifer is scientifically trained, having earned a Doctorate applying molecular biology and biochemistry techniques with NMR to characterise the structure and functions of proteins. Having started her graduate career synthesising small molecules, Jennifer is comfortable with a wide range of chemical and biological subject matter.
Jennifer is also legally trained having earned a Juris Doctorate in the United States. Jennifer began her legal career in the United States at the large IP firm Knobbe Martens, later moving to international premier law firm Sidley Austin. Her practice focused on small molecule (Hatch-Waxman) litigation for many years, representing both branded and generic pharmaceutical companies.
Moving to Europe, Jennifer practiced in the Munich (Germany) based IP firm Vossius and Partner for 8 years and qualified as a European Patent Attorney obtaining extensive experience in all stages of patent procurement before the European Patent Office. Jennifer specialised in post-grant oppositions and appeals, representing both Patentees and Opponents. Her European practice primarily involved complex large biological molecules, with a broad range of biopharma subject matter.
Since relocating to Australia, Jennifer gained significant experience before the Australian and New Zealand Patent Offices counseling clients in all aspects of prosecution before both patent offices at Shelston IP before joining Pearce IP in 2019.
